Amit Shilo
Amit Shilo was born in Tel-Aviv and raised in both Israel and America. Amit is a professor of Classics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research on Ancient Greek, Latin, and Biblical Hebrew focuses on the intersections between religion and politics, especially democracy. He has been a social justice activist for years, cofounding in 2016 the group Classics and Social Justice, which works on a wide range of causes. In the peace activist space, Amit has been involved with the tremendous group Israelis for Peace and is devoted to supporting Palestinian, Jewish, and Israeli non-violence activists. In the university world he works to arrange peace-activist events, is part of the Shoah-Nakba Research Focus Group, and has co-published on Nakba narratives. In each space Amit endeavors to promote real dialogue, depth of debate, positive connections between people and groups, and follow-through for meaningful, lasting change.
